Teaching Grandma To Zumba
Best 20 minutes Of  My Life
Day #10
April 29th, 2013

Thank you Elly for these hilarious shots.

Hey Mom, the dance floor is empty.
I'm pretty sure that's a sign we should get on out there.
I agree Vicky, let's do it.
Perfect, I can teach you some Zumba moves.
Well, I'm not sure about that.
Mom, I just can not take no for an answer.
We will see.

The younger kids asked me a few weeks ago what some of my favorite things about my mom were while growing up. I told them the first 2 that came flying off the top of my head. I like the way she used to hum while working in the kitchen when we were little. Me on the floor playing, content with just being close to her, right under her busy mom feet, enjoying the tune du jour.
The kids giggled, you do that too mom.
Really? I smile sideways, wasn't aware of that.
I also liked when she would take off the soapy yellow gloves and put them on the counter to goof off, teaching me a dance or two from her High School days.
I didn't wait for confirmation on that one. That particular scene is a daily occurrence around these parts.

Everything was right.
The music
the smiles
the fun
and grandmas attitude of trying something new.

We warmed up with the jitterbug, swimmy arms and some fancy dancy twirling never before seen on Dancing with the Stars.
Yea, I'm sure we looked that good.
The slick dance floor heated up quickly, or maybe it was all the drinking I had done. Half a Corona and a bunch of ice water can make one feel like Beyonce ya know.

In under 20 minutes grandma was a pro, a quick learner to say the least. With the help of my super cool hip nieces Grandma now had many new moves under her belt. The shopping cart, the bow and arrow and the fist pump booty bump to name a few. The creative juices were flowing as smoothly and as fast as my pulled back pony tail hair. She couldn't help but get in on the action with a style all her own. Her new inventive move was hands down the most fun.
Having grown up in New York City she had plenty of experience.

Mark my words, this move will be sweeping the nation and every wedding reception from the east coast to the west the second half of 2013.
Grandmas original......
The Subway Pull.

I should have known to stop while the going was good.
While we were high as a kite and sweating like pigs. It's all fun and games til someone brings out the gallop and spank.

I can't exactly blab out loud how our first dance lesson ended.
I'm already gonna get it for sharing these pictures.
Uncle Bill, keep this post under raps will ya? If you don't sell me out I will send you some yummy bakery goodies. KK?
I'm guessing though, will have to wait until the next grand kid gets married for lesson #2.
Something about allowing time for it to heal and all.

Anyway, I have to say mom, it was the greatest 20 minutes I have ever had on a dance floor with the coolest, most agile, hippest grandma around.
