My Worst Nightmare
I'm a Minivan Jan
Day 197
November 21, 2013
Team Zybko

I now drive a tan minivan. I am a minivan Jan. Yep, my worst vehicle nightmare has come true. I now blend in with everyone other soccer mom on the planet. Boring brown. Could it get any worse? Yes it can. I can never find my new ride in a crowded parking lot. Maybe the sliding doors, better gas mileage, re-arrangeable cozy seats and a mostly blank back window ready for a Terrific Kid sticker should cheer me up. But it doesn't. Camel Jack is no Mr. McGoogly.

Shut up! Driving a minivan isn't the worst thing that could happen to me, nor is it even a problem that should register on the radar of problems at all. It runs, it gets me from point A to point B. I'm not that shallow people. Shame on you for thinking my entire identity would wrapped up in car. Geesh. You wanna talk about real nightmares, let me tell you about ripping a hole in my favorite pair of sturdy, spanx like yoga pants. I slid across those bleachers like a boss until I hit a sharp corner and....well, I'm wearing them today anyway. Can't keep a good pair of pants down.

I thought the miniature VW was cute but it just didn't work out between us. Giving it go for a while, I tried making excuses for our incapability but we ended up breaking up just a few short weeks later. He hasn't called, texted or even Face Booked me. I'm totally OK with that. In the end I told him the truth, it wasn't him it was me. It was just too extreme of a change. So small it made my brain hurt and my elbow, every time I switched gears my right arm hit Delaney's 40 pound 6th grade backpack. No bike rack, no hold all drawers, no space to think and here was the real kicker. The 1996 cup holders weren't even big enough to fit a venti sized latte from Starbucks. Now that's shallow. HA! I suppose the designers couldn't foresee the importance of a 20 ounce hot and strong caffeine treat for sleepy soccer moms or the fact roughly 2 decades later there would be almost 2 gazillion of these places around. Size does matter. If you have $7 to blow on a cup of joe that is.

So here I am, the new me. A hand-me-down minivan Jan. Cruising through middle school cars lines twice a day, drive thrus and the busy streets of Charlotte in pure aerodynamic style. Camel Jack has been around the block for sure, he doesn't come with out issues. The passenger side window rolls down but not up, the right door won't open, the ceiling skin is beginning to droop, it has A/C but no heat, the loud alarm has a mind of its own BUT there ain't nothing wrong with the radio. Now that would be my worst nightmare.

Kid Cooking Lessons are Paying Off
Day 195
November 20, 2013
Team Zybko

I've been trying lately to make a serious effort to have the kids in the kitchen more. To help with the daily cooking, to learn how it all works and to experience first hand the time it takes to prepare food for the family. La La is a great little sidekick. Maybe it's her age, maybe its her personality, maybe it is a combination. During a school break the other day she secretly but certainly not quietly scurries around the kitchen.  Opening cabinets, pulling out cups and pushing a wobbly chair to the counter in order to reach what she needed. My little 6 year old shadow wanted to make a surprise snack for her brother and her teacher. I resist the urge to look or to even warn her about the dangers of falling off the chair onto the hard ground.
She will be OK, let her do it, do not micro manage.
She will be OK, let her do it, do not micro manage.
A few proud minutes later she serves a snack made with love...and lots of sugar. It's trail mix she announces. Marshmallows and chocolate chips. Maybe she couldn't reach the raisins or see the almonds or didn't know we had other healthy ingredients to complete at least the trail part of the trail mix.
Don't be a buzz kill, don't make her change a thing.
Don't be a buzz kill, don't make her change a thing.
I resist the urge to send her back to the kitchen. Instead I eat a handful and proclaim.
Honey, I think the cooking lessons are paying off. This is the best trail mix I have ever had.

(If you are wondering about her make up, she also does that by herself too.)

Dumping Drexel in the Woods
Day 194
November 19, 2013
Team Zybko

Drexel didn't have to think twice after receiving an invitation from Michael to hang out in the woods for a day or so. The great outdoors and Diane's great boyfriend are two of his favorite things in this 8 year old boys world. The quickly, scribbled list of to-do's was super stacked and filled with a million cool manly adventures. Even a few first timers like shooting a gun and driving a tractor.
Mom, I gotta go pack, I gotta go pack.
You need to finish your math and journal first.
Drexel's school work immediately jumped into a higher, faster gear to get it over with. After all the excited 3rd grader was anxious to get his gear together for the overnight excursion. Pocket knife, bow and arrows, flash light, thick pants to protect from thorns, a few sharks teeth, his favorite rock and a suitable walking stick.
How about a change of underwear Drex?
Mom, I'm just thinking of the really important stuff at first.

His parents house is located on a beautiful, peaceful patch of land in the middle of good ole South Carolina, USA. Before completing a traditional dump and go I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures and spending a few long minutes to enjoy the simple sounds of nature. Crickets, crickets, crickets and and the rustling of an overly torqued up golden retriever that didn't stop showing off for one second.

A guided tour from the back of a Ford pick up truck on a cloudy yet warm Friday afternoon was just what I needed to wrap up the busy week. Fall colors with out the chill, oh yea, sign me up for that. Exploring by foot proved to be just as great, I mean who doesn't like the sound of crunchy dead leaves under their feet?  I'd make a terrible hunter for the same reason I'm not invited back to a few golf courses, it's a noise pollution thing.

Thank you Diane and Michael for teaching, feeding and treating both of them with love, they had such a memorable time.

Thankful Thursday
I LOVE These Boogers
Day 192
November 14, 2013
Team Zybko

I currently only have access to the last five months of my pictures so some of these were taking from Delany's iPod picture folder. Thank you honey bunches for letting me use them. There  might even be a little extra sumpin' sumpin' in your stocking this year :)

I love the way our family has came about and how wonderfully God set up and worked out every detail, every kid and every season.  Different than any other family I know but for us, just right. 3 boogers up and 3 boogers down with a gap in-between to catch my breath. Some days I take a super deep breath and think
Oh my word, I am doing this ALL over again
And other days I think
Whoo hoo I get to do this ALL over again
With more wisdom, wink wink, grey hairs and insight to how this thing called motherhood works. Doesn't necessarily make me a better mom, just a mom with a few more notches on her belt than the first time around.

These boogers make my soccer mom heart FULL!

Younger boogers

Older boogers

Extra boogers that I love like my own boogers.

These boogers are always up for a challenge

These boogers bring me sunshine on a daily basis
Morning beach kinda sunshine

These boogers love each other

These boogers have the same look about them

These boogers make me jump for joy!

These boogers make me smile

These boogers take me as I am
 Goober and all

These boogers believe in family

These boogers humor me when I ask them to pose together
Over and over and over again
One day they will appreciate it

These boogers are ready for a good time

These boogers don't mind the cold water
OK, maybe a little

These boogers are sibling rocks
They can get on each others nerves
But they can also count on one another

These boogers are strong in mind, body and spirit

These boogers have come close eating us out of house and home

These boogers make great cheerleaders

Never a dull moment with these boogers

I'm always learning from these boogers

I am thankful for the opportunity to be mom
