Kid Cooking Lessons are Paying Off
Day 195
November 20, 2013
Team Zybko
I've been trying lately to make a serious effort to have the kids in the kitchen more. To help with the daily cooking, to learn how it all works and to experience first hand the time it takes to prepare food for the family. La La is a great little sidekick. Maybe it's her age, maybe its her personality, maybe it is a combination. During a school break the other day she secretly but certainly not quietly scurries around the kitchen. Opening cabinets, pulling out cups and pushing a wobbly chair to the counter in order to reach what she needed. My little 6 year old shadow wanted to make a surprise snack for her brother and her teacher. I resist the urge to look or to even warn her about the dangers of falling off the chair onto the hard ground.
She will be OK, let her do it, do not micro manage.
She will be OK, let her do it, do not micro manage.
A few proud minutes later she serves a snack made with love...and lots of sugar. It's trail mix she announces. Marshmallows and chocolate chips. Maybe she couldn't reach the raisins or see the almonds or didn't know we had other healthy ingredients to complete at least the trail part of the trail mix.
Don't be a buzz kill, don't make her change a thing.
Don't be a buzz kill, don't make her change a thing.
I resist the urge to send her back to the kitchen. Instead I eat a handful and proclaim.
Honey, I think the cooking lessons are paying off. This is the best trail mix I have ever had.
(If you are wondering about her make up, she also does that by herself too.)
