365 Random Days of Team Zybko
Day #249
November 5th, 2012
 Never a Dull Moment

The breezy, mosquito swatting, casual kayak trips of Summer seem like a million years ago. Winter weather has taken over around these parts. The very same lake we explored by paddling is now in the early stages of freezing over. Serious hoping I'm able to drive the prison van right on out there before we leave.

The older kids make everything more fun....period.
This expedition through the beautful Minnesota waters in August,
was no exception. Being all together always feels just right.

All was smooth sailing for a while. Taking Christmas card pics, un- necessary splashing, sibling races and of course a few rounds of "Just around the river bend". That was, until we hit a rough spot or what some might call, the "rapids".  Bum bum bum.
The shallow, fast water made it close to impossible to pass through to the next big chunk of the lake. Not cool.
A fun challenge but not cool. None of us could get by,
even after several valid, youthful attempts.
 No worries.
We weren't gonna settle for having our journey cut short.
We also weren't being judged, so stepping out of ones kayak to muddle pass the weeds and funky lake
bottom was totally legit too.
Lil' David takes off, the first kayak out of the gate into the new world. I love his competitive spirit and ability to beat all of us in an athletic competition. Minor issue this time, the four year scaredy cat, girly girl was his co-pilot. They disappear around the river bend and out of sight. Baby Daddy tells me not to worry with a Papa Bear wink and a smile. The rest of us continue slowly, somewhat of a Girl Scouts pace. Happy to enjoy the nature around us. Catching dragon flies, following a slow turtle and soaking up the perfection of the afternoon sunshine. The tranquility of the outdoors was cut short as Lil' David unexpectedly shoots out from the woods. Sliding down the shore, hilariously awkward as he yells a John Smith type battle cry at the top of his lungs, the entire way.
The rented kayak will never be the same again.
What on earth? Seriously? Yes of course that just happened, it's David we are talking about. Funny guy is always good for a jacked up stunt to keep the air light.  Unanimously, we all burst out laughing.....until the nervous whimper of the stranded 4 year kills the mood. A successful rescue mission is quickly organized and executed. No harm, no foul. Although La La is smarter than she looks, making sure to change kayak partners
before we ride off into the sunset.
Wonder if ice fishing will be this much fun.
