The Art of Motorcycles
Day 132
September 10, 2013
Team Zybko
Our impromptu visit to Maggie Valley, NC after a soccer tournament in TN led us to this super cool museum. A two story warehouse type building packed in with old cars, art work, information and over 500 vintage motorcycles. Upon paying admission the enthusiastic lady proudly explained ALL of them still run. During our visit the owner would randomly choose a bike to crank up, right there in the middle of whichever display it was home to. I really don't know much about motorcycles but I could gather this was a big deal. Amazed smiles lit up the true bike connoisseurs and iPhones were whipped out to capture the almost deafening roar. The combination of gas fumes and low blood sugar was a tidy tad overwhelming but not enough to dull the cool history of the place. I have to say I was more interested in the art work around me. Unknown to me artist of the time represented motorcycles everywhere. Some haphazardly hung on random wall space, some propped up against old oil cans, some tucked away behind corners. Where ever room permitted. No style off limits. If the threat of passing out wasn't an issue I would have grabbed a cold soda and poked around a few more rounds around, checking out what was over looked the first time through. Maybe next time, for now lunch was calling and the girls had seen enough old stuff for the year. Well worth the stop.
