Homemade Advent Calendar
Nobody Puts Baby In A Box
Day 222
December 12, 2013
Team Zybko

It's a somewhat mushy moment. That moment when you know for sure your pre-teen is growing up. It is a heart warming, proud momma, light bulb moment and for lack of a better word....neat. Yes, neat will have to do as my coffee has already worn off and I have more duties other than fun blogging on my to-do list.

One afternoon Delaney asked when I was going to make and put up the Advent calendar. I purposefully put her off until she asked again later that night.
Mom? Mom? About the Advent calendar.
I must have given her a look she understood with no words spoken.
Mom, if you don't have time I will do it.
I gave myself a look that told me without words to not be a control freak and maybe it would be a good idea to let go.

I did and she took the reigns in a smooth transition like a pro. I offered no help, she asked for none. Everyday the message is a surprise, even to me. No boxes to open or cute bell shaped chocolates behind a dated door. Instead, every morning with out fail, there taped to the back of the bathroom door awaits a message for us to start a fresh new day. A Bible verse to look up, something fun to do and a good idea to make someone feel special. A phone call to a far away relative, send a handwritten note, bake cookies and go to a new park have been some of my favorites. A blessing under each piece of scratch construction paper. Way better than a store bought calendar for sure.
Thank you Delaney, I think you are one neat pre-teen. Everyday yo get neater to this momma. Now on to scrubbing the toilet, which of course is NOT neat at all.
