Drexel jumps into the van after 1st Communion practice, totally torqued up about receiving this beautiful sacrament in just a few days. Many years of waiting to participate during Mass have come to an end. The months of studying have been checked off, date on the calendar and the suit jacket cleaned, hung up and ready to go. Yet, as he hands me some of his 2nd grade CCD papers he looks a bit concerned about part of the process.
We practiced with real hosts today mom.
Really, I didn't know you could do that.
Well it wasn't blessed or anything.
Oh, I see.
Mom....and this is when things take a more serious tone.
Did you know that the Eucharist tastes like paper?
I can't help but laugh a little, in the most respectful,
religious way possible of course.
Well, buddy, I suppose flavor isn't really the point of it all.
I know,
I just thought Jesus would taster better.
Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.

Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.

Jhn 6:48I am the bread of life.

Jhn 6:49Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died.

Jhn 6:50But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die.

Jhn 6:51I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

Jhn 6:52Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

Jhn 6:53Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Jhn 6:54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

Jhn 6:55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

Jhn 6:56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

Jhn 6:57Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

Jhn 6:58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever."
